You are invited to join us for a free public art gallery opening reception!

Making Home Here, curated by Rachel Gilbert, explores the newcomer and migrant experience and how they have come to call Newfoundland & Labrador home. Through their paintings, photography, screen-printing and textile work, the artists give insight into the challenges of relocating, domesticity, marginalization and the importance of multiculturalism.

This exhibition includes artwork by Shazia Ahmad, Brian Amadi, Ethel Brown, Ksenia Korniewska, Anita Singh and Ginok Song.

There will be a musical performance, refreshments and a cash bar for 19+.
Admission to the Art Gallery exhibitions will be free during the event.

Lead by our knowledgeable Archives staff, get behind the scenes vault access and a rare look at the ship’s log from the HMS Royal George.

In 1808, Admiral Sir John Thomas Duckworth commanded this ship on an extraordinary journey covering thousands of miles. One surviving logbook from the voyage documents six months of this historic expedition and provides an unexpected collection.

Cost: $12 plus HST. Members only!

Cost includes a voucher for tea/coffee in the café.

10:00 am - 9:00 pm

In celebration of the province’s cultural diversity Sharing Our Cultures presents: M.E.D.I.A, a display of multimedia work created by NL youth who participated in facilitated sessions on equity, inclusion, and antiracism.
The display includes poems, videos, paintings, and sculpture that all deliver positive messages designed to tackle racism and embrace diversity.

Opening remarks and Flag Parade at 4:30 pm, November 15th.

The project is funded by the Government of Canada with the support of NL Schools, CBC Newfoundland and Labrador, The Rooms Corporation, and Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association.

Sharing Our Cultures Incorporated in a not-for-profit charitable organization established in 1999. It is governed by an elected volunteer Board of Directors.

 The programs engage school children and youth in activities that enhance their academic, sociocultural, and employability skills.

Art Tea is a contemplative way to experience our exhibitions. Join us for a visit to the art gallery, then exchange ideas and share reflections about current topics in art. This is a casual and relaxed group setting. Tea will be served overlooking the breathtaking view of the harbour.

Seating is limited.

Auks, Wolves and Whales

What fills the void when a species is no more? Legends, folklore, and history worth learning from. Come listen to the stories of the Great Auk, the Newfoundland Wolf, and Endangered Whales as they echo across the ages through their body and bones. Commiserate with the extinct, heed the calls of the endangered, hold ossified bones, and see how artists transform tragedy into hope for a sustainable future.

Tour is approximately 30 – 40 minutes and included in the cost of admission.

Teens

Join us at The Rooms for an inspiring drawing class designed specifically for teens. Whether you’re a budding artist or just curious about exploring your artistic interests, this class is perfect for you!

What to Expect:

Our experienced instructor will guide you through fundamental drawing techniques, from line work to shading. Each session focuses on a different theme, from drawing the harbor view to capturing the details of our natural history collection.

This fun and relaxed atmosphere is a place for teens to meet fellow teen artists, share ideas, and enjoy a supportive environment.

Materials Provided: High-quality drawing supplies will be provided.
